With members of all different ages and abilities we are a diverse crowd. The Club has also reached Club Mark Accreditation.
About Our Club
- Who are we?
We are an established running club with a reputation for being both friendly and competitive. Our members are of all ages and ability. Some of us run to keep fit, some to train for races of all distances, both local and further afield or some just for the fun of it. If you are new to running or a hardened veteran there will always be someone to run with. We are always happy to see new faces so come along and join us!
- Who are the Panthers?
The Panthers section of Swanley Athletics Club has been set up for 8-16 year olds. The idea is to introduce Athletics to children of all abilities; fun coached sessions are held every Wednesday at 6.30pm from spring through to the end of summer at Swanley Park. During the winter, indoor training is provided at Swanley Technical College - except during the school holidays. Children are encouraged to take part in various competitions including fun runs however there is no pressure to take part. The benefits in having fun while exercising are tremendous so bring your kids along. While they are using up their energy you can come and join the adult training session!
- Where do we run?
Our clubhouse is located in the picturesque Swanley Park, just off New Barn Road. This allows us to train on some road & trail runs in the surrounding countryside. Favourites include Joydens Wood & Farningham Wood as well as around Swanley Park itself. Many of our members also take part in local races like the annual Wilmington 10k, the Dartford half marathon and various marathons including the London Marathon.
- When do we run?
Monday: 6:45pm for 7:00pm Coached session usually start at Dartford track, Central Park (near Fairfield Pool entrance), Dartford. Duration - 1 hour approx.
Tuesday: 7pm. 5-6 mile relaxed local run currently from Birchwood Park golf course car park. This may change in the winter months. Varied speed. Duration - 1hr approx.
Wednesday: Coached sessions starting at 6:30pm at Swanley Park during the summer months and then from Hextable School, Swanley during the winter months. Please note that training will be at Dartford track (20&27 March 2013), please see news item for details.
Sunday: Start 9am from the clubhouse. This is a longer social run at a steadier pace. Runners of different ability split into different groups. The route is usually chosen on the day. Duration - variable 1-2hrs approx. Tea, biscuits and toast are always on offer at the clubhouse at the end of the run.
